New Ross is about forty minutes from our yard, on the road east. It is also the town on our list where the quote depends least on the paint and most on how we reach the wall. A town built on a hill, and what that costs
New Ross stands on a steep hill above the River Barrow - a walled medieval town whose streets still run up and across the slope. The houses that came later followed the ground: tall, narrow, stepping up the hill in terraces, often three storeys at the front and more at the back where the land falls away.
For painting, that geometry is the whole job. A gable that is two storeys from the street can be four from the yard behind. Ladders are not an option on that, so the honest answer is scaffold or a tower, and scaffold has to be costed, delivered and stood on ground that is rarely level. On a narrow street it also has to go up without closing the footpath for a fortnight.
This is why two houses that look identical from the front can be very different quotes, and why we will not price a New Ross exterior off a photograph. We come, we look at the back as well as the front, and the access is in the written price before you agree to anything.
