Painters in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary
Carrick-on-Suir is half an hour from our base in Ferrybank - the closest town we cover outside Waterford itself. We are painters and decorators, not a franchise: the same crew that surveys your house paints it. Painted fronts and shopfronts, interiors, timber windows and doors, bathroom renovations, and the preparation that decides whether any of it lasts.
Painted fronts, lime render and shopfronts
The heart of Carrick - Main Street, West Gate, Sean Kelly Square and parts of Bridge, New and Castle Street - is an Architectural Conservation Area, and what gives it its character is exactly our trade: painted, rendered street-fronting facades, timber sliding sash windows on the upper floors, natural slate roofs, and traditional shopfronts with moulded timber detail.
The council's own conservation statement asks owners to hold on to original lime render and, where cement render has been used, to replace it with lime. That is not decoration policy, it is building physics. Cement render and modern sealing paints trap water in a wall that was built to breathe, and the damage shows up as blown patches and damp inside. Lime lets it go.
For shopfronts the same statement discourages plastic fascias and roller shutters and asks for hand-painted or individually cut signage in colours that sit with the building. If you are doing up a shopfront on Main Street, that is worth knowing before you order the sign. We are painters, not conservation officers - check anything structural with the council first. What we bring is the right system on the wall and a steady hand on the joinery.
What we do in Carrick-on-Suir
Rendered facades, shopfronts, railings and gates, using breathable systems on older lime-rendered walls.
Power washing and exterior cleaning
Soft-wash on anything older or rendered. Driveways, patios, roofs, gutters and fascias.
Interior painting and decorating
Walls, ceilings, woodwork and wallpapering. Furniture covered and floors sheeted.
After-builders and end-of-tenancy cleaning
Deep cleans after building work or between tenants, planned around your dates.
Full fit-outs by one team: strip-out, tanking, tiling, plumbing and the decorating at the end.
Restoration and repainting of timber sashes and front doors, plus supply and fitting.
Shopfronts, fascias, doors and railings we can paint outside trading hours where that suits the business.
Half an hour away, so small jobs are worth doing
Because Carrick is thirty minutes from the yard, we can take work here that would not make sense sixty miles out: a single room, a front door, a hall and landing, one shopfront. Further afield we have to plan around whole-house jobs to make the travel work. Here we do not.
Bigger jobs too. A full bathroom renovation is one team from strip-out to the last coat of paint - tanking, tiling, plumbing and decorating - with one fixed written price for the whole room, not four trades and a week between each.
If the rest of the house needs painting as well, we plan it as one job: the bathroom first, the decorating after, one crew and one start date.
Our work
A recent bathroom renovation from start to finish - the room as we found it, the walls tanked, and the finished job.
Before - dated tiles, pedestal basin and a tired shower enclosure.
During - stripped to the walls, tanked and waterproofed before tiling.
After - floor-to-ceiling marble-effect tiles, new vanity unit and WC.
Before - old shower enclosure with failing seals and grout.
After - new tray, glass enclosure and brushed-gold fittings.
After - wall-hung storage, vanity unit and heated towel rail.
How we price
Every quote is fixed and in writing before we start. We do not publish price lists - on older rendered buildings the preparation is usually the bigger half of the job, and we say so at the survey. The visit is free and the quote lands within 48 hours.
How we work
1. We come out and look at the job - free, and usually within a few days.
2. You get a written quote with a fixed price and a realistic number of days.
3. We agree a start date and keep it. If weather moves it, you hear from us the day before, not on the morning.
Questions we get asked
Will you take a small job in Carrick-on-Suir?
Yes. We are thirty minutes away, so a single room, a front door or one shopfront is worth doing here. That is not true of every town we cover and we would rather say it plainly.
My front is cement rendered - can you just paint over it?
We can, but on an older building it is worth a conversation first. The conservation statement for the town asks for lime render back where cement has been used, and there is a reason: cement and sealing paints hold water in a wall built to breathe. We will tell you honestly what the wall needs.
Do you paint shopfronts and signage?
Shopfronts, fascias, doors and railings, yes, and outside trading hours where that suits. For signage the town's guidance favours hand-painted or individually cut lettering over plastic fascias - worth checking before you order.
